I am planning to build a small (200 sq. ft.) patio of local granite within/abutting a small (200 sq. ft.) perennial garden I dug in and planted last spring and so came to this site as part of my totally novitiate reading. I may never leave! And besides, I can count this as my own research as my current academic project is based on the building of a 16th c. English Catholic knight (but not peer) in Northamptonshire who conceived and directed building projects on his lands of everything from house additions and lodges to pighouses, bridges, arbors, ponds, rabbit warrens, heron houses and massive formal gardens. I've been reading and transcribing the building logs (originals in the British Library) for a while now, gradually picking up methods; but in about five minutes on this site, I've taken already quite a leap in understanding! I admire your ethos, Mr. McCormick, and your courage! Thanks.

Found this site by accident whilst researching 'grey water' treatment. After half an hour's reading I feel much more confident about tackling the front drive next year. Many thanks for the efforts made to produce this superbly helpful site.

After coming accross your site and learning from your strait talking advice to all and sundry I just wanted to Thank you for the tips I have learned I will be delghted to recommend your site to my Customers as a yardstick to temper my own advice to them. Being an Electrician But having been in the Shopfitting & Maintenance and eventually Building Game For 20 Odd Years I only occasionaly do Block work and then only for Existing Customers or Buy Request "I Tend to be a bit Pernickity about doing things Right" And I have Allways tried to find the best ways of Doing the Best Job Possible And Making a Profit of Course. I probably end up doing the most akward Jobs That Sensible Pavoirs have Avoided There really is a lot to it sometimes. I know your regular readers appreciate your advice and you must be used to praise by now so I really can't say more than THANKS FOR BEING HERE Chris Copland

Just a note to thank you for a great site - just finished laying 1300 Tegula Deco blocks from Marshalls. The result is stunning - all down to following your tips and advice from sub base to fine sand. The only disappointed party is the cat who saw the unscreeded grit sand layer as a huge cat toilet!! TIP - Cover with Visqueen to prevent cat attack!! Thanks again and keep up the good work! Neil Grayston

Marvelous ideas, slightly annoyed i've just discovered this site as it would have been very useful a few years ago.
