I don't usually post to a site but yours is exceptional with a wealth of factual information for homeowner and home builder alike. Even though products and conditions vary country to country some principles are constant. You hit the nail on the head.

Hi Thanks for this brilliant site. It has answered so many questions ranging from tidying/resurfacing a Tarmacadam (not Tarmac)drive, to removing lichen from concrete paving. I feel I have a new best friend!

Hi Tony, My wife found your comments on the white powdery substance on recently laid flagstone concrete pavers for me. I'm so glad to read that it wasn't something I had done as a first time pave-layer! It is very frustrating when you decide what pavers will work with the outside decor of the house and surroundings, to spend an eternity preparing the site, finally laying them into the screed level bed of sand, having them look a million dollars only to see them after only a few days looking like I had acquired these pavers second hand from Steptoes yard! I first thought that I had left some pavelock cement on the pavers when I was grouting the gaps and didn't do enough prep in making sure all the residue was gone. 2 days later I saw the white-grey deposit on the pavers and I kicked myself in being so slap happy, next came a wire brush to try and remove the deposit, I thought I had it beaten when I would wash away all I had done, only to see it return when the pavers dried out. Then I saw that only 30% of the pavers were affected, yet I wire-brushed all 99 pavers! How could that be. Then my wife showed me your information and it all makes sense, so thank you for that. Lets hope its going to be 2 months and not 2 years for this eflorescence to dissapear. Regards, Jon Norfolk, Levin NZ

Hi Tony, well here I am again, almost 10 years on. Thanks to your site's advice back then, the paving I laid is still holding firm. Now about to do more work on my garden and lay more paths and a new patio, I find myself here refreshing with your super advice and methods. Thanks so much, brilliant web site and source of information. Best regards Phil

Truly amazing site. After doing a poor job 10 years ago on our large patio, I was apprehensive about ripping it up and doing it again in black limestone. This truly is a one stop shop for great advice and far better than any of the suppliers woolly instructions. They should add a link to your site. Many many thanks

Made a donation Tony, so should others for what is one of the most valuable libraries of info on paving.
My Dad also lost discs in his back and he says, "my back and legs may have given up on me, but as long as I have something to do with my brain then I'm happy". Keep up the great work.

This website is the ideal website for the landscaping part of my studies. I can also see that workpeople would find it extremely useful if they've forgotten how to do something, or are just starting up a business!

I am purchasing a 400 yr old Welsh cottage in need of some work and already I have had the displeasure of poor advice from a numpty chartered surveyor who treated me like a dim little lady whom he could bemuse. Thank goodness for the internet and your knowledge! He has advised a damp proof course and double glazing and more which would only damage the property. He has completely missed the potential problem with the down pipe soakaways 9 one lower room has flooded during heavy rain ] which are over 10 yrs old. I have a timber care surveyor [ charged me a couple of hundred pounds for the survey ] in next who will probably try to sell me damp proofing work [ he was recommended by the surveyor ]. Thanks to your website Tony I am now forewarned and forearmed to deal with both surveyors. I will also search out a competent and knowledgeable company to do the repairs. Thank you Thank Thank you for being passionate about your craft and wanting to help others :)

I have recently had contractors doing my back garden, laying footpaths and patio. One contractor did it wrongly and ripped me off because he just used sand as bedding and the slabs started dancing badly within a week. I would have had no idea why it was wrong if paving expert detailed and professional pages hadn't been around. Also, by using paving expert, I can talk to a contractor understanding what he is on about. After all, I am just a teacher and a woman, classic rip off customer who has no idea how slabs should be laid.

Only recently found this website but good god what a wealth of genuinely useful information. The kind of information and general advice that often gets overlooked in books and trade literature. The how-to and not just the why you would do something. Good resource! Keep up the good work!

Many thanks for the advice on this website for removing Lichen from paving. Finally, after buying a couple of bottles of Calcium Hypochlorite (Swimming Pool Shock Treatment) my heavily marked patio is starting to look much better, several sprayings and scrubbing over several days is required but it does work very well. My pressure washer couldn't touch the Lichen but the Calcium Hypochlorite does work.

Just returned to your excellent site for the lowdown on 'grano' properties and mix ratios. I have to say that the knowledge you share is a brilliant. I now now exactly what to mix, how to mix it, and how to use it. Again many thanks for this wonderful and unique website,
