Working on a 1000+ Sq Ft patio with 2 entrances (steps with landing) I needed all the help I could find. I cannot thank you enough for all the help your web site has given me.
My steps are a 5-sided design and your tips for mitre-cuts not only provided insights on how to do the job right, but also minimized waste.
As a DIY'er I have gained knowledge and experience through the information you provide free. I constantly refer to your web site and consider your advice 1st Class. I thank you for sharing your knowledge and providing the best paver info on the web.
Many of us in the States know the best masons in the world are in Europe.
Thank you again for sharing your knowledge!

Fantastic site. Just about to flag two back yards and was browsing for a few pointers because I thought I knew roughly how to do it - after several hours on your site I realised I knew very little!
Thanks for all the effort you have put in. I think there is a book or two in you as well as this site.

Just a note to say thank you for a great web-site. I have just completed 170m2 drive in Marshall Elite blocks and it has turned out perfect, thanks to your advice. Your calculators enabled me to deal with our builders merchant in a professional way and provide accurate quanties for sub-base / sand / blocks etc. As we (me+wife+3 kids - occasionally!)did this ourselves, it's great looking at the spreadsheet for cost estimates, taking out the labour / profit and seeing what we saved!
Could you do a more detailed section on when to hire plant etc. Until 30T of sub base arrived, I had no idea what this looked like. It took us awhile to shift it by hand, and it would have been wiser to hire a digger for an afternoon. Also for clearing the size of our drive we ended up contracting a digger + 5 loads of 10T lorries, rather than skips. When is it best to do this in terms of square metres? for example. Also, by chance we hired a vibrating roller to compact the sub-base as hire shop plate compactors all gone. It made short work of the job (and me nearly!!)for this size of drive, and would have taken an age with a plate compactor.
But at the end of the day your advice was invaluable and spot on, so once again THANKS!!
(can I send photo?)

Great site! Since we just finished a new paving stone driveway, I've
been concerned about the white powdery substance coating the tops of
some of the pavers. Your page on efflorescence is excellent. And
although the new drive is stain-free for now, I know it won't stay that
way. Nice to have this resource to tell me how to deal with the oil,
grease and who-knows-what-else that is sure to accumulate.
Thanks!

Thanks for an excellent site, only one comment, after a previous attempt at a small residential patio, using the DIY book '5 spot method' I can fully understand your commentys as I experienced all your reported possible defects!! I guess I needed a bucket of oats for my Horse! The next one will be as your instructions. Thanks again.

I'm no dummy but having repeatedly struggled, and failed miserably, to set out an acurate arc with an obstructed origin your site provided me with a true "Eureka" moment. Inverse radius.
It's so obvious once you know how but without your instructions I would still have been trying to do it by eye which does not work in reality.
Thanks for a great resource of useful information.
I'll be back again and again.
