Very impressed with your site, all clear, sensible and extremely well-written - it has gone into my favourites immediately and is a model for other sites to follow.

As a DIYer the information on this site is incredibly useful and so much more informed and professional than the DIY leaflets you get from the likes of B&Q, Wickes etc. Many thanks

The most comprehensive and helpful site I have ever come across - irrespective of the topic I'm researching. I've had your site bookmarked for over a year and have recommended it hundreds of times.
Tony - If you ever get tired of running the site, let me know I would love to own a site like this!

Well...It only took about 30 seconds on this site for me to decide that I must place it in my favourites list!!
Well done to all who contribute to the content, format and illustrations...It is by far the most informative site I have found to date and believe me...I have looked at many sites relating to DIY building works as I have spent the past three years (alone) building a 7 bed (7 bathroom) Bed and Breakfast from the ground up.

Now for the bad news...I had already paved my ground area of around 120 slabs just last week (two paths and a large porch area)using British Standard flags that are 50mm thick and measure 600x600 and 600x900 and wish that I had found this site prior to commencing the work as I have laid them all using the 'spot' method and nearly broke my back doing it!
I have laid them on a 100mm solid concrete base and used 9 spots for the 600x600 and 12 for the 600x900.
I have not pointed them in yet and intended to use a semi dry mix including a dye to 'grey' the mix.
Have I wasted my time though as you suggest that the spot method is a total NO NO ??

I have used internet D.I.Y and construction help sites since I first bought a computer in 1997. I have found your site tops the lot.
You have it all, not only is it a site that covers all the things it says it covers properly. It also covers them in clear English without jargon. But not only that, it also give access to where to find the official jargon, for specifications and legal requirements if it is needed. This is a one stop site, if it is not actually on the site then you have the link, to take that extra step. Most other site's will give good info, but generally, you still have to put another search into google to check for bits that are missed or the fact that there are no URL's or links provided. As I said you do provide it all. I thought only the gods were perfect, but you have proved me wrong. Best of luck with this great site. I will be a regular visitor. By the way your articals on drains and sewers are excellent. Thanks Joyce DIY fanatic, that likes to do things right.

All I can say is thankyou and what an excellent and professionaly informative site you have produced (so, like me, even the non - professional can understand construction related jargon). Please keep it up.

Thanks for such a great site - a rare site supplying quality information without plundering for cash. Sadly you need to fly the flag for tradesmen because so many still fall below standard both morally and in workmanship which is why I still DIY even though I'd rather not bother any more.
I have a site level issue and this web-site has ensured I won't end up with a bodge and wet brickwork above damp course. I have ordered the book, as much to say thanks as anything as the site gave the info I needed, but I am sure I will find it a useful reference.

Dear Sirs and Mesdames,
Many thanks for access to a first class web-site. The info is far and above details simply to attract custom and represents a public service.
Much appreciated,

I agreewith your site have done many of your tips (40 years contracting)and have to say your site makes it easy to show a greenhorn/client what good concrete is all about...The why's you need do what you do stuff...
Like to see info showing what concrete tools should be used to get the concrete in place before its cured, sealed, cut or used...Showing the type and strength of concrete that should be used in different jobs, etc...So good stuff to see on line now...Lansing

I am building a pond 5mtr x 4mtr flush with the lawn level. I wanted to have quality 'crazy paving' around the edges and a small patio for a bench.
I have never attempted anything like this before and I have found this site covers everything in laymans terms and more. I will set the uneven stones on bed of grit sand and cement dry mix and will point them with coloured morter to enhance.. what a great tip!
As long as you peg out your levels (water doesn't slope with a crooked pond!) you can't go wrong with the great information off this site.
I just need a dry week to lay.. the weather is the only problem. Great site, will recommend to everyone! Thank you
