What a fantastic site and thank you for all the useful advice contained within. Building a new patio and paving area in my back garden and I have used this site regularly to check the various steps and materials needed. First Class site!

Fantastic website for learning about anything related to roadwork! I'm an engineer, and I know that plenty of engineers skim over learning about this sort of thing, but I have enough experience in the field to know that a good tradesman is an artist and this website does a fantastic job of showing how the artists work! Hats off to this fantastic website.

A very useful thoroughly-researched and -set site, as a professional, glad of all the back-up I can get. obviously having to interpolate pricing acc. to likely London weightings and project type/size but a very good primer. best wishes.

Hi, I have started a project for a client of mine, a 35m cobbled path, I've used your site on several occasions to pick up tips etc. So when it came to cobbled paths I found this most interesting.

I've taken photos everyday of the progress & am really pleased with how it's turning out. I am though laying them on a 4 inch layer of clippings & sharp sand, compacting the whole lot with a whacker & applying a top coat of sharp sand to cover make it flat & tight. It's working really well & thought you maybe interested in the results. All is pictured on my Facebook page above on the link.
Many thanks
Mike

Hi Tony and the team,
Just a quick note to say what a brilliant, helpful site this has been for me over the last few years.I know it might be obvious to you but everything here is done to help the likes of me, a one man band trying to get on. Plain talking and informative. Thanks a lot and keep up the great advice.

Have laid down perhaps three large truck-loads of interlocking bricks over the years all on what we call screening here in Ontario. This stuff packs well and acts almost like concrete if not disturbed. The problem is that using the same thing for jointing does not stop weeds from sprouting every year. I am wondering if I could use what you term a stabilizer to help prevent weeds - and ants! - from performing their annual battle with me.
Screening is light grey in colour and varies from sharp granuals to dust and packs extremely well. I have used it under all my paving with great success.
Thank you so much for a terrific site - I know I shall be back, and will certainly pass it on to others, which is how I found it in the first place -
from a friend.

I am a designer and Surveyor, prior to this I had a few years in Civil Engineering. This is my go-to site for all specification and material advice. It is a fantastic source of reference. I recall a Construction book when I was in college and it was my bible. This site could easily be transferred into a book and would surely be as useful for a Civil's student. Thanks very much and keep up the fantastic work.

Hi Tony,
Just wanted to say thank you for the content you’ve put together – it has been a massive help for me! Stumbled upon your site looking for information during a recent garden renovation & decking build. The instructions I received from our supplier were incredibly vague so I appreciate the hard work it must have taken to put all of this together. Very straight forward, good, honest advice. Will definitely be back!
Regards, Tom

This site blows my mind. It is simply brilliant. So much information and in-depth knowledge compacted into an easily read and understood website. Though I'm thoroughly practical I never really wanted to lay a patio and was dreading it as I knew there was lots to know in order to get it right. I'd have been stumbling around a wonky patio if it hadn't been for you guys. Thanks!

Just found your site while looking for leaf stain (Tannins) removal. Have used bleach in the past with success. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Great site.

Hi just wanted to say thank you very much for this website as it has helped me a lot, whilst working on my drive to have it prepped for laying Tarmac. It has been a great, well presented and illustrated. It's such a shame you are no longer in the business as your sound advice and professionalism would have helped me a lot in tarmacing my drive. It would be great if you were to pass on my info to any reputable contractors to have my driveway tarmaced. Once again thank you very much indeed. Keep up the good work!
