I have to commend your effort to assemble an coherent site on the subject of mortar and concrete. Clearly, a couple pages cannot begin to explore the detail necessary. Entire engineering courses are devoted to the subject and careers built upon its subtlies. This is a great start. What brought me here is an interest in "dry beds" for the substructure of a shower pan. I am currently converting an existing shower into a disable person's shower, allowing easier access and have specific slope requirement in a confined space. Pouring concrete is out of the question. Please make your recommendations. Thanks to all.

I am glad I found your site, it is very informative.
In the units section I believe an imperial ton is 2240 lbs. not 2204 as given. Please forgive if I am wrong.
Also can you help with the proper mix proportions for hoggin?

What a helpful site. I have a patio to lay and drainage issues. Very relieved I didn't put that new drain into the manhole against the flow of the sewer! And so on. Thanks

Your informative article regarding - 'Drainage - Linear Drains' - Is a credit to who wrote it.
I found it especially easy to read, learn from and rapidly realise that the person(s) who wrote it certainly knew the subject that they were writing about. - Thank you.

I've left my learning to 12 hours before someone comes to quote for a new drive. I cannot add anything to the hundreds of "brilliants" "easy to understands" except for one thing. You've made the whole subject an intreresting page-turner. Thanks you. George Lush

Wish I'd read this site first. I've just been ripped off over a 30x30 meter drive, £4000 cost!. They even had the nerve to add on £650 for "Sealent" and "Special" edging stones. Having read your site I cannot see any mention of "moss supressing sealent", but it's hard to argue with 6 large builders standing at your door.

This place is brilliant! If it was only in book form I could take it on site so I don't have to try and remember everything that I'm just too buggered to remember late at night when I should be in bed so I can be on site tomorrow trying to remember everything that I read last night.........is there a book?
Heartfelt thanks anyway for such a useful resource.

Excellent advice! Just staring my patio project and had any questions to answer; what base to use, how to bed the slabs, etc. All were answered with the aid of pictures which helped evn more.
