Currently writing my dissertation on permeable pavements. This site was really informative on the different layers and reasoning for their inclusion and choice of material. The writing style kept it interesting too. Thanks

I have just used thick bleach neat on my Indian sandstone patio. I brushed it in and last it about hours. Worked really well
Thank you for a great website. In appreciation I have bought your book which is an excellent read. I completed my own block paved drive (detailed on my site) before I knew about your website. My next drive will be better because of the info on your site.

I found this site a few years ago when trawling the internet for research about drainage and paths and just find it fascinating, mainly because its so in depth and full of clear well presented info written by a clearly practical and humerous gentleman. Recently i laid my own very simple path in my garden. I used thick reconstituted stone slabs i bought secondhand, bedded on a decent layer of sand, and finished with a decorative wood chip layer either side, and because of the generous information given freely on this site, have made something I am really pleased with. I look forward to several years of kneeling, weeding and wheelbarrowing.
I've been using this site since I discovered it many years ago for advice and knowledge on paving and drives. It's is probably the best knowledge base on the subject by a very experienced guy based on practical experience, his own research and using the stuff on site - so he knows it works and how it should be done properly. I Can't recommend this enough it's what we in Construction need - not degrees or bits of paper but good sound advice based on experience. Thanks Tony your an example to us all.

Thanks for sharing some of your expertise with us all. Very generous of you indeed. Found your site, after I did a search on tips, on how to lay stone slabs. I am going to pave over a very small area, at the front of our house. I noticed you live in Culcheth, I lived in Glazebury a good few years back. Once again, brill site. Thanks.

This site is incredible. I have learnt so much in about 10 minutes (mostly how to phrase a tender invitation document in such a way that it doesn't just get an eye-roll, raised eyebrow and go straight in the 'to do never' pile!). Currently looking at replacement footpaths, a playground surface for a muga and some sloped paving all for local councils so this has helped enormously - I can't say thank you enough!!

Incredibly impressed with your site! Just coming to the end of a first patio job and the information has been top notch - even the calculators have been bang-on. Many thanks! Duncan

All websites should be like this - information clearly presented, cross-referenced, thorough, colloquial and human. You have my absolute respect for not placing ads and other ... that other websites use to "monetize" their "contribution" to the internet. Your ethical stance is exemplary. Thank you.

Fabulous site, clearly written by an expert, not just in matters of paving, but in communication and, dare I say it, in humanity too. Grand.
Great website for DIYers. I appreciate everything you are doing to help those who just want to get better at a trade or improve their home.

I have always fancied a traditional drive and, after studying your site, I now know how specialist the laying of granite setts is. Your site is full of information and written and very interesting style. The illustrations are particularly good. Thanks for the help your site has provided. Kind regards Christopher Shenton

Informative and well laid out site. I came across it when I was about to lay a patio, followed the guidelines to levelling ground, preparing a base and laying the stone. Fantastic

Wow. This web site is simply awesome. I'm a total nonce at anything like mixing concrete and laying patios. Having read these pages I feel confident that I can tackle jobs like re-pointing my patio by myself. Thank you!
I'm so excited to find this forum. The wealth of information here is a real treasure. Thanks for making it available to everyone. Looking forward to really digging in over the next week or two before business really heats up!
