Hi,
I served an apprenticeship in the craft of street masonry working for local councils and private companies for around 20 years I obtained my tickets City and Guilds in Roadwork craft and advanced then supplementary studies at New College Durham in the 1970s I eventually became a construction Lecturer and trainer and helped many Roadmen, learn the various aspects of kerbing and paving etc and I am sure many of my former trainees are still employed in the trade. It is great to see this site dedicated to our craft and long may it continue, at the age of 54 I am hoping to demonstrate the old trade of stone sett and cobble paving techniques very shortly as there is a need on old heritage sites, does anyone have a sett hammer for sale? as i shall need one! most visitors to this site probably do not know what one looks like ! Great work keep it up! Support the Get Britain Building Campaign!

Thanks so very much. I had been researching how to lay a cobble path, and stumbled across your site. All my questions have been answered. THANK YOU!!! You have saved me time, money, effort and probably a huge argument or two with the significant other. A most excellent and altruistic website. Will be telling all other DIY friends and family.

Dear Sir ,
What a fantastic website ,I have been in the landscaping business for around fifteen years now and have many calculations to do and your site has been great .I only stumbled across it by accident but im glad i did . I thought i had quite a sharp mind and had my own ways of doing things and working out material requirements but i must say that "this old dog has learnt more than a few new tricks " so to speak .Congratulations on a job well done .
Kind regards
Graham

I have been in this trade many years now,
and still find this website amazing to
reference from, both technically and for
business contacts! Also there is no
hidden motivation. Which makes the advice
un-questionable in my mind!

Still the best site out there for information, and if
you want a smile, the Craic is worth a tea break! I
have put a link to you on my blog. I am starting a
Tipperary Tips log, for all the jobs a landscape
architect or builder gets brought in on when you are
tempted to say, like the joke when an Irishman is asked
directions to Tipperary "Well, I wouldn't have started
from here"!

A belated thanks. I used this website extensively last summer when doing my own front drive - it had everything I needed to know - from laying drainage, to concrete mixes to estimating how many tons of sub-base to buy. An invaluable site for anyone who's thinking doing their own outdoor project. In a word...brilliant

This website is so informative and easy to read I'm really enjoying myself finding out about all sorts of things i have no need for! I could sit for hours reading about tarmac and paving and I'm not even into DIY I just came on to educate myself in the ways of 'resin bonded aggregates' because i want to make over my front garden and need to build my confidence when talking to tradesmen.
