I am delighted that you have decided to share your invaluable experience with the rest of us. After having rogue traders fleece my husband I when we engaged them to undertake an extension of our home, I learnt the hard way and have now taken to researching how to do certain building work before taking any one on. Your information on installing linear drains has been invaluable to me. Thanks a lot mate, I wish there were more honest and good people around like you. It's a shame that you are unable to help ordinary domestic customers like me. You are just the sort of contractor that I'd love to pay!

In process of laying a patio & building steps. This site was very informative for a novice like myself with simple, easy to follow instructions with "down to earth" tips and details of pitfalls.

Excellent. As a tradesman I recommend this site to tradesmen and DIY'ers as well as customers who need to research projects before parting with money. I agree with others, this is definitely the best site.

Fantastic information all under one roof. Your help has been invaluable - I am now ready to tackle the project of relaying our very large, uneven and un-pointed patio properly, and may even extend it. Thank you so much. I was feeling very much daunted by this task, but am now confident that I have the knowledge to do it properly.

what a briliant site - I've stopped looking any further - it's all on here!
It's well written,(and the grammar is spot on), simple to understand and it's credit to you.
Now, if I could only find one about plastering that is as good...

What an amazingly user-friendly, informative and helpful website.
Packed full of information, delivered in a manner that is considerate
that we are not all fluent in building trade jargon and yet never
patronises. I am fortunate to have come across this WWW site before
starting work on a a reasonably extensive paving / terracing project at
home. Having bought and read a number of books on the subject, I
reaslise (now) that I would have made a series of errors - especially
regarding 'bending the rules' re patio and the dpc.
To messrs McCormack senior and junior: many thanks indeed for so
generously sharing your experience and knowledge. I can see from all
of the other guest book entries that it is much appreciated.

To call my self a novice is an understatment. I'm trying to pick some one to do a job for me at my home.So I delved into your site quite accidently. Glad I have done so because I learned a lot. Top of that is how little I knew about this kind of work and how few people out there one can really qualify as professionals. Thanks a million for the concise and precise information, beautiful design and elaborate guidance.
Well done

What a brilliant website you have! Though I was in planning and management of high profile projects in the construction industry for some 30 years, I rarely had to do the work myself! Now I'm about to pave a patio of some 30sq.m. I would never have believed that a website could be so, so informative! Thank you so much for your guidance!! Martin Reid, London.

Thank you for an exceptionally clear and informatuive site. I am a DIY novice, and I am very grateful for the advice you have on offer. It is comprehensive, non-intimidating, and well mixed with humour, common sense and candour.
ou deserve an award as best site of the year.
