Please don't remove the archive site. It's like a university for paving - preserve every scrap of the knowledge please! Doesn't really matter that it's a bit clunky, it's working clunky - if you rework it, please preserve the information and especially the advocacy for paving as an art and craft

A fantastic website! Tony is such a generous man. (I also bought the book). I am not a DIYer: I prefer to engage experts to do jobs around my home. This site enabled me to design patios and paths around my garden, and to have informed discussions with our builders. Thank you
As a veterinary surgeon of nearly thirty years' experience, I spend a great deal of time researching information written by "experts" and "specialists." This is by some distance the most comprehensive, informative and well-written body of work I have read on ANY subject, not just paving. A marvellous mix of experience and knowledge that provides all the information one could possibly want. Thank you.

WOW !!! Was just browsing and happened to stumble upon this fantastic site. I have quite a large rear garden, along with an average sized front garden / drive that all need a complete overhaul. Some major clearance has been done to the rear and Paving expert has given me a whole new view of possibilities, not only of materials but also of what I may need to pay professionals to do and what I may well be able to do myself, or with a mate (who is pretty handy anyway). Will most definitely be returning for more ideas ! Excellent stuff !
I came across your website when I was a garden design student a few years ago and what a find! It is still my go-to site for learning about hard landscaping. An absolutely invaluable site for novice and experienced garden designers. Thank you for your great work.

With a backgound in civil engineering in Australia, your site has be so helpful in helping me navigate the different terminology and techniques used in the UK. I also appreciate that you have taken care to correctly use metric eg. m2 and not sqm metres etc. I'm staggered by the complete lack of understanding despite 50yrs of UK metrication. A friend was blown away when I explained that a litre of water weighed 1kg therefore a cubic metre of water weighed a tonne - how convenient!

Thank you thank you for your brilliant and informative site. No stone unturned (ha ha)PS you had me at "However, ... some people prefer to live in the past and continue to use an outdated, overly-complicated base-12 system. To aid the understanding of these Luddites,..." I just couldn't agree more!!! yours a happy design student at CAFRE, Greenmount

What a great site this is. I am a building surveyor and was directed here after a search for stone kerbs. Great advice, great resource. Thank you.
Just wanted to say thanks a lot for a great site and resource for tradesman and DIY'ers. Very extensive and knowledgable, a great contribution to the industry and a must visit site for anyone embarking on a driveway or patio paving project. Thanks

I'm and avid DIYer and have used the website as a reference for so so many jobs that always seem to need doing with a 1930s property. It's my go to! Thanks for a concise encyclopedia

A brilliantly written, hugely informative website. I'll definitely donate, as you've saved me hours of trial and error with a curving slab path in our new-build garden. Your loss is definitely our gain. Thanks very much for the thousands of hours you must have put into this.

Very helpful; wish I had seen it before I started on the black spots on my York stone crazy-paved patio. I have tried pressure washing, diluted household bleach, patio cleaner which post-hoc am told doesn't deal with lichen so tried their one which supposedly does, used neat which they suggest. Result: the stones are generally cleaner from the pressure wash but the black spots are still there and, horror of horrors, the mortar between the stone pieces, which is quite wide in places, has turned orange and presumably that will not change. Is that the detergent used with the pressure washer or the other products? Am now considering sodium chlorite but wishing I had just washed it down as the black stands out more now.
