Widow friend called yesterday and informed me she was having the driveway tarmac'd. Two men spent six hours and laid about 75 square metres of (cold)black stuff on top of cracked, uneven, weathered concrete.. In damp cold weather, temperature 5C. I Googled for Tarmac and there you were. Best example of how a website should be. Your information is excellent and informative with no pretence of it being a secret science (like so many other trades profess). Confirmed my view that she's been ripped off.

I wish had found your site before I laid a paved area in my garden. I thought I had taken the best advice and used the spot bedding method (which appeared odd to me because of the void it creates beneath each flagstone - however the 'experts' know best). Less then five years later many of the stones have subsided or are rocking and the whole area must be taken up and relaid. A pity you're not based in London - I might have asked you to do it for me!

Fabulous site - now to get my husband to read it too, and see if we can manage to make a patio for our brand new house which looks as though it's well established and well laid! Thank you!

Thanks for a great site. Excellent source of information. Great tips and it also gives you confirmation on what you may already know. I did a front driveway block paving project at my parent's house which included repairing, replacing and re-routing drains. This was in October and when I have time I'd like to submit some pics of the whole project.

Thanks for the info - a very well thought out and informative site. I soon had it in my 'favourites' and refered to it throughout the constuction of my gravel driveway - now finished apart from the kerb drop. Excellent!
