About to start my own driveway with a friend who knows the score. Thought i'd get some knowledge. Had to say, never seen a better web site for information than this. Had to comment.

Absolutely brilliant site. You have taken the bulldust and secret handshakes out of the paving and landscaping trade and put it into plain English that even someone from Oz can understand. Mate you're a real trooper. Take two bob out the till and take the rest of the day off.

Thanks for your site. Having obtained a quote for a crazy paved drive that was more expensive than I (retired) was willing to pay I came across your web site. With the knowledge gained I decided to lay a block paved drive myself. It took me 2 months but the results have received good comments from the whole neighbourhood. There were only 3 problems: 1. My house is built on a hill. The drains at the front of the property may be more than 900mm deep but just in front of the garage it was more like 90mm! Your drainage pages came in handy for replacing broken pipes. 2 I used your spreadsheet for estimating the amount of sub base material and sharp sand. The former was more or less OL - I've got a little left over but the sand was estimated at 5T and I only needed 3.5T! I think if I had used the calculator for just the sand I would have got a more acurate result. 3 My wife likes the job so much she now has me reconstructing the back garden!

I have never built a patio before and had little idea about how to start. Your website not only helped me to decide on which materials and methods to use but has given me insights into other projects. I consider it to be among the best websites I have ever used. It is logically constructed, very clear and unambiguous, debunks a lot of myths and is very user friendly. Thank you.

This site is great. I know nothing about chisels, but I DO know I have to use one to remove some concrete. This gave me a starting point--at least I won't sound like a total boob when it comes time to buy the needed tools. Thanks a bunch for the much-needed info!

Your site is the most useful I have come across for good sound construction advice. Having followed your words of wisdom, I have just completed block paving my drive, not perfect, down to me,but it would have been a lot worse without you. Many thanks.

Brilliant site! Just looking for permeable surfaces for community hall roadway and parking + drainage. Found enough information to get the whole thing about right (at least feasible) to hand over to the engineer for fine tuning. Visited the site for a five minute check. Stayed for a couple of hours just learning.

I am studying for an exam which includes 'Constructing Garden Features'. It is not a subject that I am particularly drawn to but I need to pass it to get my Diploma in Horticulture. i just wanted to say what a brilliant site this is and to thank the author. It is so useful and, most importantly from my point of view, friendly and extremely generous with its comprehensive information. Thanks again. Julia

A big thanks for producing a teriffic web site. I am just embarking on some hard landscaping in my back garden and I will use the site as my step by step guide.I'm using contractors and they seem impressed (or suspicious) on my wealth of technical knowledge - little do they know!!

One of the most useful sites on the web, it has continually given me the answers I needed when landscaping my garden, congratulations. Totally agree with your comments about Stonemarket Millstone flagging and walling and their catalogue, all are excellent.

I was looking for information on soakaways and found an encyclopedia! Shame there isn't a 'print page' option. Your site is now bookmarked for future use.
