my mum works for waitrose (although she is retiring in November. Fed up with rude customers!), and its all under the same banner.
For years we shopped online at tesco for groceries. Not any more. It waitrose all the time. Better service and quality. In fact on one occasion, their delivery driver was unable to make our delivery, so they sent the shopping to us in a taxi to avoid letting us down!

i have shopped at all the major supermarkets and waitrose is the kiddy, albeit expensive
i found tesco and asda to be a bit cheap and cheerful, sainsburys and morrisons a tad better bit not as good as waitrose
we do go to lidls for fruit and veg and mineral water ,but you cant do a weeks shop there
marks and spencer is about on a par with waitrose ,but easy to spend 200 quid on a weeks shopping
