I speak to merchants on a daily basis, mostly heavyside civils merchants and certainly in Scotland, January has been unbelievably busy.
Also the company i work for selling twinwall pipe, attenuation systems etc have had a great start to the year in all areas of the UK.
I Hope & pray it doesnt go tits up.

My old man (MICE), always said the building industry was a sure way of telling, which way the economy was going in general.

On a site this week for a 100 + build in the midlands, a company we work for regular and they are talking of shelving it it. New builds on the adjacent site that are finished can not be sold for love or £

The bank of a reasonably big developer in Bournemouth has just got jumpy about the amount of land it has borrowed on, it owned £13 mil of land/buildings, some with narrow margins, the process of selling some of them off has begun!

My mate usually has at least three sites running. He is a couple of weeks in to a site that is his first site in a couple of months, he won't touch a site unless it easy and or has a good margin.

However, there is still alot of building work going on and alot of applications going in locally.

I know I am spending less and worrying more, since the re-mortgage in January.

Indeed - it is a slightly worrying time.......

Hopefully it'll sort itself out!

There's a large-ish job starting in Glasgow in the very near future where they are crying out for good sett-layers or other experienced paviors familiar with stone paving installation.

Interested? Email me.

Hello guys
Things are looking bleak in the house building market!
I have done my yearly leaflet drop to 1,800 new homes and most of the sites have homes completed and unsold from upto 10-40 empty homes ...so i think this year will be the year the prices fall...lets face it ..it had to happen...however for customers for garden makovers i an overrun with quotes so i hope to have a busy year ! steve

Those are the reasons i went back to working for a large construction company. Rates good, bonus OK and i get travel money of £25 a day, or subsistence allowance. also if i got laid of i would get redundancy. at the moment I've been transferred local so £19. 60 a week on the choo choo, 25 Min's to get there ( luxury ). and can still do the odd foreigner at weekends. :)

Sean

This sudden transfer local to home has nothing to do with a runway at Heathrow being found to be a hundred metres to short has it ???

...... Ran out of materials :(
Id light to think that my " sudden transfer" is to do with a large drainage problem in Hastings :;):
