me and mrs lout are attending a birthday party at L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon on saturday night (some swanky french place in landahn) anyway mrs lout is going to some expo on sunday so she said we may as well stay in a hotel rather than end up paying £100 for a taxi back to luton
i have looked and tried but blow me down with a feather you cannot get a hotel up west for less than £200 a night (brekkie excluded)
most are like £3-500 per night
a scaff i know recommended a place on Russell square "the president" he said its 3 star basic but is about £130 a night
532 rooms fully booked on saturday??
am i getting tight in my dottage but a weeks wages for 1 night in a bed seems OTT to me?
I wont get public transport late at night from london after a very unfortunate incident on the train 10 years ago.
I'd pay £125 for a travelodge but the nearest ones are in places like barking or staines??
yours in poverty

Try the Jumeirah Carlton, Cadogan Square, we normally get a good deal there. A wee trek from Covent Garden but its London innit? Treat the Mrs, payback is the key...
Travelodge in Staines.....err....no thanks. Might as well stay at Heathrow! How are you getting down? Train?

Royal Penthouse The Dorchester, London
Few people except heads of state know about the Royal Penthouse. The Dorchester has a Howard Hughes-style shyness of publicity about the four-bedroom duplex – formerly the Sultan of Brunei’s London pad.
Occupying the eighth and ninth floors above Park Lane, it’s decorated in empire and classical 18th-century style, with a scenic trompe l’oeil and a master bathroom of 24-carat gold plate and black marble. It has two dining rooms, two drawing rooms, a hairdressing room and a cinema. The vast terrace overlooks Hyde Park and Mayfair – though, if you’re staying here, you probably own chunks of that already.
As in the other suites, exotic materials are an obsession: rare marbles, Italian drapes and a New Zealand wool carpet with more than twice the normal number of tufts and a design picked out in 22-carat gold threads. The sultan would surely approve.

I stayed in the president last year, its basic but good enough to put your head on a pillow after spending all day shopping and then seeing a show in the evening
try these
but hurry up as most hotels are showing full, one can only assume something big is on in London this weekend

could just be tht allocations have been filled and other companies' allocations are open. Try last lastminute.com or laterooms. Make sure you have a quick butchers at tripadvisor to check out the reviews although bear in mind there's ten times more chance a bad review will be posted than a good one!
We did one of these "mystery hotel" things in April and the Mrs managed to work out where it was from the clues in the description. IIRC we paid circa £200 for a suite in the Radisson Grafton. We weren't that impressed, bathroom was tiny (well, the main one!) but rooms a decent size. Free internet was poor speed, and the breakfast at £17ea was a total con. At the end of the day it was a suite for £200 though....

after much hooing and haaing, no,
we have a super king size bed at home, i cant justify staying out for £200+ with FEB an extra £15 each,
plus mrs lout has realised the cost of the meal and wont be joining us (when i go out with this crowd the meal plus wine is normally £120-150 PP ===> which is nice once in a blue moon)
if we both went and stayed the night it would cost a monkey at least, which is a lot of money in anyones book for a night out and the drakes breakfast
there must be something on this weekend because i have looked before and its been a lot cheaper
tomorrow will be a few pints after work then a £35 chinky
now thats what i call living
thanks for the links

Looks like the Travelodge in Covent Garden still has rooms @ £130

Stayed there a couple of weeks ago, it's a bit basic but ok for somewhere to crash.

I quite like basic hotels. I'm not talking about rooms with white contiboard furniture and an outdated bathroom but modern hotels, clean, crisp and without clutter.
I only stayed for 1 night, it was cheap but I really liked this one.
