Can anyone give me a bit of advice.
I have just bought another website addy and a company called Upmystreet who are really just BT have told me they will design my website at a cost of £535 plus vat, but if I don't pay soon it will go up to £630 plus, yeah right I better act quick. :p :p
Is that a good price or not, my last website was hosted by these people for the last year (£23 per month) and I never got one phone call, but I know my website was naff, as I designed it with their free software.
I have got loads of idea's on my new site, but all this talk and promises of the designer is sending me to drink a lot and I am beating my wife more.
I know he said I will have 20 keywords blah blah blah
my mate did my webby for roughly 130 quid ,this includes a gallery with thumbnails ,guest book, about us and links,to host it and buy the domain for 2 years was about 50 quid
if you contact me via pm i will send you his details
my old fella constantly gets these ppl ringing up about extortionate fees for websites,no need at all
cheers LLL
I used to throw up websites for £100, inlcluded 2yr domain name, photo galleries, contact forms, multiple pages, xhtml and css valid and I also show the customer progress and can rectify/modify anything at anytime. I also recommended hosts i found good in the past through experience also. 500 odd quid is just a rip off tbh

Nail on the head there mate.
Stuarty, they said for that price people will easily find me on a google search, is that whats putting the price up, as I would be high up in the search dept if you know what I mean. or is it like you say, a rip off.
lutonlagerlout your name is putting me off pming you :p
As long as the web designer puts in the correct and enough meta-tags you will be well up on google,my old web site was number 2 on google cost me £120 but my webmaster has packed up MSH

Bloody ell, boy am i glad I put a thread on here.
I thought I left the days when I was getting screwed once a week in business well behind.
There is no "set rules" to getting the highest search engine results. Search engines dont just only read meta tags, but the actual site content aswell. Google PageRank system is able to "understand" to an extent what the context of your site is all about. The best way to get good results are informative meta tags, well organised pages with good data. The only way to "guarantee" that your ad gets good google results is to have a sponsored ad. There are firms who earn tons from offering Search Engine Optimization (SEO for short) services, its a science in itself since none of the search engine firms release details of how their crawlers work, or more importantly, how they define what goes where in the results.
Stuarty speaks good - my good friend spent a fortune on getting to the top of the google search in his field - after one year he still has no work come thru from it - he's doing okay with the good old fashioned recommended from very happy customers route....
ps - mind you, he's one of those blokes that turned up in the mid 70's with a mobile phone the size and the weight of a housebrick... cost him about £2,500 as I remember.
"Meet the new boss - same as the old boss - We all get fooled again"
ps - Hiya Dan - just heard down the pub that RRhino really have gone down the tube this time? - might just be pub talk. Not sure if this is old news - I'm a bit out of the loop.
