I have just had some news today from one of my suppliers that I am shocked about
He has said that where he buys his crushed concrete from, they are mixing in tarmac chippings(road planings) and broken glass!!
I wouldn't dream of using tarmac as a subbase, and I dont want it in the crushed.
Apparantly, they still charge the same price for it, there is still the aggregate tax, but because the road planings are a waste product,(as is the glass) they don't carry the levy, so more profit for the person selling it. I bet they get paid for recycling the glass by someone too! what a scam.
I will be avoiding this like the plague. I have heard of building inspectors rejecting this type of material.
Anyone else having problems like this?
Crushed concrete - Quality getting poor

I wouldn't worry too much about the glass, as long as it has been tumbled to make it safe. It's inert and quite hard, and has a bit of a history as a fairly reliable aggregate.
However, road planings are a very definite no-no. They are not inert, as is required in the spec for Type 1 materials. The bitumen/asphalt content continues to degrade even when buried and hidden from UV light. There is a need to dispose of planings because they are classed as 'perishable' and therefore cost more to send to landfill than does an inert material, such as clay or old bricks. Consequently, they're being sneaked into all sorts of places and offered at a cut price that barely covers haulage, just to get rid of the damned things!

We just buy DOT type 1.....straight from our Local quarry...got a deal on the price...and no hassle..
We did buy 150 tonne of Recycled/ crusher run for a temporary drive..... but after a few punctures from the steelwork that was with the recycled stuff...we would of been better off buying new and It would of worked out cheaper in the end to use new DOt TP 1
not a lesson on sucking eggs peeps.....just my experience..

Shouldn't you be thinking of buying a Red Rhino Mini Crusher or hiring on a regular basis ???
I am able to solve both issues. I have a dealership for them and am happy to hire out machines on a day rate to within 100 miles of my base in Buckinghamshire.
If you need more details or have any questions post them and I will happily answer them.
I have worked with these fantastic machines for two years and they are either saving their owners fortunes or making them fortunes.
Lets have the craic!

Unlike crusher chris, I do not sell crushers, but I Have a Crusher hire business, and can offer competetive rates.
I have a different machine from chris, which offers different capabilities, as some of you regulars will know.
