I have to get a foul sewer for a shower room and toilet down to the sewer run by the house. It is a 17.5 meter run and a 3.5 meter drop to the level of the existing run. Do you have any advice regarding the way to do this?

That's relatively steep, but not to the point of being ridiculous.

You can lay at 1:5, if you wish, but the alternative would be to lay the pipe at, say, 1:20 or thereabouts, and then use a drop shaft connection where it meets the existing... Dropshaft Connection

Personally, I prefer dropshafts as they keep the flow rate sensible and they reduce the amount of excavation required.
