Hi everyone, thanks for the advice before. We've found a reputable firm that is happy to meet all building regs and dig down to the 300mm depth. The rest wouldn't do it and just wanted to lay slabs up to the DPC!
They've quoted £5,500 excl VAT for the 40sqm patio that includes digging out 300mm of waste throughout that area, laying mod 1, laying sub base and then laying the slabs. Plus some relaying of old drains ith new drains. This doesn't include the slabs which I am buying separately.
Do you think that sounds like a reasonable price?

Prices vary so much throughout the country, it's impossible to say.
The only way to be sure you are getting a fair price is to get at least two other local firms to quote on an *identical* basis. If necessary, create a spec based on what your prefered installer has promised and get the others to price that - and only that! Not what they would like to do, but what you say you want them to do.
