Chippings on patio

Setts and cobbles, tarmac, asphalt, resin systems, concrete whether it's plain, patterned or stencilled, gravels, etc.

Is it possible that i can put chippings on top of an old patio, as i have just purchased the house and i do not wish to uplift the patio this side of summer.
