Hi all,

I have read a few posts that have similar problems to mine, but I would like to double check what to do, so sorry for repeating others...

I layed a Travertine patio 2 summers ago now. Put down a decent compacted sub base of type 1 then layed the whole lot on a mortar base. I butted all the flags against eachother in a random pattern.
After the frost this year and last I would say 90% of the patio is now loose. If I go out and walk on them now there is a little movement, I can hear them all moving against eachother as I walk. Most of them quieten down after walking on them a bit and a few of the worst ones I have lifted, releveled and replaced.
I dont want to have to do this every year, so what can I do?
I take it that this is due to water between the cracks and through the porous slabs expanding with the frost? Would sealing them help

Many thaks in advance.

worz butt jointing on the whole is a fail
most (95%) of slabs/flags need to be pointed
what gave you the idea to butt joint them?
LLL ???

hmm thats a very good question and now i think about it i have no idea, I guess it was the only way i could see that the random pattern with different sizes slabs would fit together and look good :(

So bearing in mind i have screwed up, any suggestions?

Cheers

Even if they weren't butt jointed 90% is a lot to patch up.
Why not relay but get Tony to do you a design
