I am new to your site and think it's a fantastic forum to gain the right information

I am needing advice on the right substructure for laying some slabs or flagstones in my garden. It is a new build with just the normal new house back garden of earth and no turf.

What depth will the substructure need to be and can it be just type one and then waked level? I'm unsure as yet if the slabs will be close or with a suitable gap for gravel. I was also going with the 5 mortar patern for setting the slabs on.

If i decide to put a small monoblcok pathway would the edging blocks still sit with a mortar mix onto the type one or would it need foundation strips?

Sorry for all the questions

I have spent a bit more time viewing all the info you have and because it is for people use only i'm going with course sand bed with a little cement to a max depth of 50mm.
