Slate chippings on driveway - Question

Setts and cobbles, tarmac, asphalt, resin systems, concrete whether it's plain, patterned or stencilled, gravels, etc.

My wife wants to use Slate chippings on our driveway. Is this ok - will they be durable enough. Any idea what thickness to use
