porcelain patio using pedestals

Post: # 120089Post garryl

Good Day All,

as they say longtime lurker, first time poster.. but over that time I have used the advice from many posts and found some fantastic products to use.. so belated thank you.

So my latest problem... er project. I've moved to a new build which has had an awful excuse of a patio throw down (can't say alid as it would be an insult).
The sub base seems to be some sort of cement mixed with aggregate/stone so not a smooth finish and course looking. As a number of the slabs have cracked and lifted I feel now is the time to replace, so looking at upgrading.
I intend to extend the small area which will mean raising 2 sides using block and cement, but what I can't do is use a wet fix as the current slabs were dry laid on top of the base and used their weight and 'grout' to fix (30mm thick) and is very close/up to the DPC already... so current thinking 10mm pedestal system with 20mm porcelain (totalling 30 mm).. but is the current base good enough?
pictures are here https://photos.app.goo.gl/SAvcfAonyeHFVjsh7 as I can't seem to be able to load in the message..

options I think I have:
1. extend as I thought using blocks etc for the slope, then on the lawn (300mm width only, dig down geotextile and 4 inches of cement ( or would type 1 do)?
2... dig out what's there and redo...

Advice always greatly appreciated.

Garry
