Hi all.

I have read about sub bases and was just wondering?
I am doing a drive and I have dug down 40 cm. I want to put bricks down first (frog up) then i want to put a sub base down with a depth of 10cm. which will be wracked down.
Then i want to put a membrane down then another layer of sub base down this lawyer is to be 17.5 cm before putting sand on the top apart from over kill would there be any other issues.
The bricks that i have put down are side by side in squires)
Please respond

400mm is a bit excessive but no problem.
If you need to use a membrane this should go down first before any build up of sub-base not between base layers. It's to prevent the soil mixing with the stone sub-base, at 400mm probably not necessary.

Bricks are not ideal as a base material but if you must use them then space them apart.
Build up your sub-base in layers of around 75mm in depth and fully compact each layer before laying the next. That's going to be about four layers, phew a lot of stone required.
