I am looking for a professional surfacing contractor to replace my front lawn with bitmac and resurface current driveway. The proposed specification is as follows:-
Excavate approximately 45 SQM lawn to 225mm, remove small silver birch tree/roots and climbing plant roots, block edge approximately 15M only plus block edge double diamond design in the centre, replace plastic manhole cover with iron frame/cover, 150mm MOT, 50MM binder and 25mm SMA.
Current bitmac driveway (granite) is in reasonably good condition but will need some binder repairs in a couple of hollows and resurface approximately 45 SQM in SMA.
Drainage to run towards edge of new driveway to avoid planning. ready to commence immediately.
£40 including VAT per SQM for the full excavation and £20 including VAT per SQM for the resurface to include other parts of the specification above = £2,700 including VAT. This is a final proposal rather than an invitation to negotiate so not to waste anybody's time.
If you are an experienced machine rolled bitmac surfacer and this proposal is of interest could you send me a pm. Photos available
Thanks,
Lyrik

Ah but the profit is in:
15T sub-base=5T
9T base-mac=4T
And so on.
This is where the dubious make they're profit.
Hope your still listening Lyric with a K.
I know the answers you're hearing here are not the answers you want but: "Buy cheap, buy twice"
:p
footnote: Just park on your lawn and spend the £2,700 on a 4 wheel drive
Cheers

Some of you are clearly missing the point
You are clearly missing the point that I have clearly set out a specification above so won't be a "shite" job. Also interesting that some contractors will charge inflated prices to the uninformed and bully little old ladies yet play the outraged card when someone dares to suggest a proposal with a bit of no how.
I already have a couple of established surfacing contractors talking this through with me who have taken the time to at least think through rather than making a low class throw away comment. It will of course be considered on a wages basis rather than greedy fat profit and keep their men employed if they are quieter at the moment. And then make their profits when much busier.
The only useful response in lemoncurds which has been considered. The predictable pikey, smiley face, scary mongering comments are judgemental and in my experience by those who operate unethically themselves.
Finally you may care to look at advice under the bitmac section on this website which recommends a cost sub £20 per SQM. Where do you think my knowledge comes from? As such I have doubled this up due to smaller area to surface to make what I consider to be a reasonable proposal.
It was an invitation of work to consider. Not an invitation to make cheap comments which I feel also cheapens what otherwise appears to be a professional website. Your potential clients read this remember.

I think what the regulars are trying to say in a normal manner lyrik is ,is it possible to get a high standard job for the price you have quoted.are you going to stand over and check everything that's being done . You only get one chance with Tarmac unless it's all taken up again or patched. I did a similar job last year with block edge and circle in the middle and was quoted 2100 for Tarmac ( sma) .that was all prepped .The lady decided on resin in the end and paid 2800 all in for the resin ,I can put a pic up for you if anyone can do it for me if I email pic.

lyrik the prices on here are from when tony Mc was contracting over 10 years ago
we spoke about this as they are all wildly low
bitmac now costs over £100 a tonne
the way to approach a contractor is to submit a specification and ask for a price
get 3-5 quotes but also listen to see if the contractor knows what they are on about
why would anyone go and do a job for wages is beyond me?
what is greedy about making a profit?
when you buy petrol do you worry about esso or shell making a *greedy fat profit*?
its how business works, but you clearly do not understand a basic business model
your comment about *Bullying little old ladies* is an insult to the hard working (mainly) men on this site
there have been elderly people come on here for advice, and I can think of at least 3 instances where local contractors have gone and done a small fix for free
heads up to mickg, darren, and matthew.
it seems a little knowledge is a dangerous thing
