I have never seen so much total rubbish as that video,the guy is using the oz screed that you say is no good, it looks like grout he is working , does not do any thing for me,
A magnesium trowel cant do anywhere near what a vibrating screed does in the compacting of the concrete.going on your ideas all vibrating tools will not be needed on flat work
but everyone has there own ides MSH

that is the antithesis of the way i have learnt
which always involved some kind of tamping
so which way is right?

Yes that is the complete opposite to tamping, look when you tamp you are just spreading the concrete outwards same goes for the magic screeds, not taking it back and out, which leaves a uneven slab. Anyway my point about tamping in this post is about why you can't use that "technique" if i can call it one, on exposed aggregate because it pushs the agg to low leaving a sandy finish.

No he's not, if you had bothered to read what i wrote you would know he's using this screed.

The screed i said was fit for the skip is this screed.

yeah i get the bit about tamping pushing the aggregate down which makes sense if you want exposed aggrgate as Kuts says its an interesting technique

I love the exposed agg and im sure i could sell loads of it, its just i have no idea how to do it!

I have a page that will be published in a week or two, as soon as the sponsoring company gets their own website together, which will show a few techniques using cementitious overlays that may well be a convenient intermediate for you.

I used some of their products and techniques on a two day training course last autumn and even in that limited time, and given my own limitations with a knackered spine, I was seriously imopressed what I could achieve with almost no effort.

Looks a millions dollars but costs under a tenner per metre (the existing concrete base is extra, obv!)

As soon as I publish, it will be announced via the usual channels (here, newsletter, Twittery Thing, etc.)

admittedly I have been part of the tamp or roller tamp everything generation
its just how we were taught

I've always been taught the same an when i tell the lads at work they think im crackers, i get "you've got to tamp it to get the fat up, ive been concreting 40yrs"
