I'll put money on it there is a lot of years knowledge sat at that table and good on yer for having a christmas do Tony :)

I was talking to a mate of mine yesterday who is a foreman for a medium size roofing company and if your a skilled roofer you get a christmas bonus of £100 and £50 to each of the young lads plus a free night out of as much beer as you can drink including food laid on too so all in its quite a lot of money

last few years they have moaned is that all they are getting with the £100 bonus and not that many have turned up for the christmas do, this year he wants a list of who did not turn up for the do and he is deducting the money from their wages as all this cost comes out of his own pocket and the goodness of his heart

Oooh I can see his point but I don't think deducting monies from their wages is the way forward, one way to piss off a bloke is mess with his wage packet!

my accountant told me years ago better to give bonus than a pay rise
once the pay has gone up it has to stay there, and after a couple of weeks it is forgotten
if you give someone a bonus it is a one off plus it tends to put a smile on their face
we have had a few good tips from customers this year which is nice and leaves happy memories of the job

My first venture into timelapse video, been wanting to do it for ages - this one I got the positioning of the camera wrong as we arrived onsite before sunrise - the sun came up and shone directly into the lens of the camera - you live and learn!

The building at the top half finished is a half built swimming pool

Contractors dug it and piled it on top of the slope top loading it. It caused a land slip, they tracked machine on it and tried to pull it back up, under cut the slope and made it worse, they didn't have insurance for that kind of work and it would appear the knowledge so £100k later we are going in to try and sort it out

we are ready to lay the patio, but thames water who 10 months ago took money for a build over agreement are now dragging their heels
a guy came thursday and did a site visit and said
" looks fine to me but i want our senior engineer to have a look" ring tomorrow"
we rang friday and they said ring monday
we rang today and they said ring back thursday at 3?

we cant carry on or we risk the chance of them wanting the drain moved to 3 M outside the building
I explained to the agent that the existing clay has a 1:40 fall and has worked for 180 years
we shall see
