Just read the whole thread.
He brings up some good points about the industry in general but comes across as an arrogant prick in doing so when he quite obviously doesn't know it all ie: doesn't understand the difference between commercial and domestic, thinks all hard landscapers are idiots, can't understand basic statistics and is ignorant of geology and chemistry.
We all know there needs to be some good quality, government backed standard qualification for the industry
We all know that in the last ~20 years there has been a big increase in the numbers and types of stones imported in to Britain with much of it not thoroughly tested in our climate.
We know that suppliers should be rigorously testing their product before putting it on the market ensuring that the client knows how porous the stone is (with some stones like granite it isn't terribly important because it is within such a low range that knowing a precise figure isn't important but in the case of limestone where it can be really like a sponge or like granite it is really important), how dense the stone is and it's slip resistance value. They should then be held liable if the goods are not fit for purpose.
For now that is all a pipe dream.

With regards to the problem, I don't think anyone mentioned just how slippery this paving was which is very important. I have had a moronic arrogant prick of a customer sit and watch me try to wash a fossil out of some sandstone for a few hours using various different methods because he insisted it was stained and not a fossil (charged him ars*hole added tax for my time).

TBH, Im probably bias as Im not a great cycling fan. But I'd like to say he will always be a hero to me simple because of his epic cancer battle. Cycling and training whilst under going treament for cancer, which spread from his nutsack to his brain, basically a 'good night Vienna' scenario.

however he has kept his gob shut and that to me is something i like
if you are going to get involved in anything moody and you get caught dont make it worse by ratting out your team mates/doctor/manager/etc
so he may be a psycho/bully/drug cheat
but he is not a grass

Yeah, he posts here occasionally, and is very knowledgeable about paving construction, but doesn't actually install any himself.

David has made a good business by being knowledgeable aboiut paving methodology and construction and then using that knowlkedge to crow-bar his company's products into almost any application. I have come across 10m² patio jobs where his patented system has been proposed as the only suitable and fully-compliant construction.

He's also heavily involved in the new sort-of Apprenticeship scheme which will feature in the News section later today, when I get a chance to write it up. He was also a major contributor to 7533:12 about jointing materials, which didn't endear him to many of his competitors.

David is genuinely passionate about pavement construction, but the vast majority of his work is in the commercial sector and much of his experience comes from Germany and Austria. Sometimes, his empathy with the way paving is done in Britain and Ireland is a bit out of touch, and once you introduce any element of greenery into a paving project, he loses interest.

It's not fair to knock him. He has made a genuine and valuable contribution to improving paving standards in this country, but his rapport with the typical 'white van man' paving gang is somewhat limited.
