how do you guys go about drainage when there is either clay ground or not enough space for a soakaway or rain garden?
from my understanding of the regs if all other options are exhausted you can direct from a linear channel to the existing rwp?
im just after what you guys do in these situations either by direct reply on here or pm
ive lost count of the number of jobs ive been under quoted on due to other "contractors" not installing any drainage what so ever even the interlay registered members too

From my understanding the regs aren't enforced perhaps you should give clients an option of doing it right or doing it another way. I'd always plumb for the right way but as long as the client is aware of the enforcement risk then it's up to them to re employ someone to sort it.

If there is no option to use a soakaway, swale, rain garden or other SUDS option, then you can discharge to the existing sewer system (SW preferred) if planning permission is sought and granted.
That's the legal position, but as you state, no bugger bothers and I've still never heard of a single prosecution. One contractor in Huddersfield allegedly received a mild finger-wagging but that seems to be about as bad as it got.
Originally, I wondered what would happen when surveyors did their house report as part of a mortgage application, but it would seem that they are either completely unaware of the law (so that's down to the RICS) or they just don't give a toss.
Now, with the much-vaunted plan to rescue the economy by throwing planning regs out of the newly-built conservatory window, I'm not even sure that the law actually applies any longer. Let's be honest: environmental concerns are not even on the agenda of this current shower in government. That sort of thing is for tree-huggers, crusties and plebs.
