If you're going to do it then offer to do it regularly in exchange for putting up a board / banner and or an advert in the church newsletter.

i Agree. the number of times i have done freebies, especially for neighbours of where i am working, who later on get all the drive done and landscaping work, without asking for a quote!
Although, if you do the church grass, and stick a fish logo on your van, you will get more work

Dont do free work for any other reason than as a good deed, it rarely becomes more than that.

I got a phone call 5 weeks ago asking if I would do a favour and help out by digging a garden off for nothing so they could have the total area covered with a child friendly rubber surface and she went on the explain that her 3 year old child had Angelman Syndrome which at the time meant nothing as i did not know what the symptoms were other than she said he will never be able to walk or talk and without a blink of an eye I said yes there and then as its not that often we can give something back to someone who is less fortunate than us and in doing so I actually made her cry on the phone, with tears of joy I must add as she had been knocked back by 4 other landscaping companies and she had expected the same answer from me too

Angelman Syndrome

I gave her phone numbers of skip companies and builders merchants to get the materials free of charge and the skip was provided free by a local skip company and the 6 ton of MOT and 8 x 2 treated timber rails to fix to the existing timber fence were provided free by Travis Perkins so hats off to both companies for helping out

it was a hard dig to say the least with the garden full of builders rubble under the turf but it was done knowing we are helping someone in their time of need and the work completed in time for his birthday

we do loads of free work for our rugby club, my dad was there all day sunday slitting the 3 old pitches and 2 new ones ready for sand spreading, some times you have to help out. local landscaper near my house in shefield has a big board at a church and cuts the grass etc,

the church crowd are certainly a good crowd to get in with

im to much of an atheists to get involved with the god squad ;)
