Ground source heat pump

Not exactly the norm but was just wondering if anyones got any experiance / pro's / cons of these sytems ?

Got a client looking @ one - on a farm so it'll be a pigging big hole as apposed to a bore hole. Got to heat a 5 bed farmhouse and 2 small holiday cottages.

Very good systems but pricey so they're more of a lifestyle/ moral choice than a financial one. They're best fitted to new builds and are very costly to retrofit to existing building especially stone ones given the work involved in removing all the floors and knocking holes in walls below ground level for pipes. Very few of these renewables systems give anywhere near the returns that are claimed by the sales people. PV is one exception if you have the right sight and can get a good tarrif my folks have it and their meter usually spends several hours a day going backwards even in the winter.

best we fitted was in a large pond or lake needs to be spring fed keep water flow running was from norway heated 10.000sq ft house even the rads were geo fermal on norm 1kw power used gives back 4kw

We've got a large 4 acre field on a south facing slope at back of my parents house when we redevelope we'll be installing one. I've priced a few for ppl but think unless it's rebuild and rural price and mess is too much

Pablo - what do you mean by PV ?

There's a south facing field with a gradient that would be the place to put it close to the house - and the farmhouse is going to be extended so that should take care of some of the work.

There is potential for a lake - it's got spring water and small stream 'on site' - but it's probably 250m from the house. Unless we dig a bigger lake....

Cookie - do you mean the kit came from Norway ?
