interesting stuff dave
however, in nearly all cases there is "i didnt see the sign,i was in a rush, i didnt have change"
a lad i know used to run a clamping and tow away company, I spoke to him about the ethics of what he was doing and he said

" its people's private land, these people are parking on,if they dont want to get clamped, dont park on private land, simple"

As you can guess I dont get parking tickets because, I dont park illegally

Agree mate, I've been done once, many moons ago, and got stung for £80. I gave them the usual crappy excuses, pleaded to no avail, and cursed them all at the same time, but still paid up. Iwas parked illegally, even though the sign was 4" square and stuck 2 mile up a wall, they were within their rights, no matter that the charge was way to steep. But I've never been done since, mainly because I'm not handing over my hard earned because I can't be arsed to walk a bit.
Interestingly, the guys who run the firm that did me are all up in court at the moment for basically fleecing the public for the last 15 years, so they do get their come uppance in the end.

The rules governing private car parks are different to council car parks.
As well as the link in the first post take time to read this it could save you a packet

I've succesfully fought and won two parking tickets using this site.

my mate got clamped by one of these firms once.
He got his stihls ts400 out and cut the clamp off, threw it in the boot, just as the clamping firm arrived.
they called the police, who could do nothing as it was a civil matter on private land.

i disagree with the wnackers that run clamping firms, but what gives me or you the right to park free on their private property??
living close to luton airport we often get spendthrifts parking outside our house
the latest nomark left his smartcar there for 3 weeks
it doesnt bother me as they are legally parked but my neighbour the reverend wanted to slash 2 of his tyres
when i asked why 2?
he said because no one has 2 spares :;):

Surely that's destruction of property / criminal damage?

Nope you have the right to remove it if you can which I did last year as they stood and watched after clamping my van. Thing was I was collecting a cheque from the CEO of the firm that owned the car park and it was only half full at the time. I gave them a warning then fired the saw up I think it amused them it's obviously a rare occurance. If you remove a council one on the street then you'll get into trouble.
Can't see it from my house

Why do some poeple get so upset about people parking outside their houses? I couldn't give a monkeys if someone parks outside my house. If there is a space free outside my house then I consider it as a bonus, but nothing more. I parked my van outisde a neighbours (five doors down) house the other week and the sods actually called my office to demand that the London Stone van parked outside thier house was removed. Now I park it their whenever I can :D

Surely if people have got time to get annoyed about something so petty they must live a pretty dull life

thats a good one steve.
I especially like it when they drag cones, dustbins and planks of wood out into the road when they go shopping. Its very amusing to remove them and park there!
