After a massive media campaign the dude from RBS has finally agreed not to accept his bonus.

Wonder what people think about this???

You spelt W*nkers wrong.
My take, his contract said he is due it so he is entitled to it. It is an obscene amount of money that nobody needs. If I were in his position I would be donating the bonus to an animal charity. If he actually turns the bank around and sorts out it's problems then he is worth every penny, my major issue is when they take massive salary and bonuses then ruin the business

steven hester has received £35.5 million in pay since 2008,so a cool mill is of little consequence to him
all wages relate to market forces
he must be very good at what he does
I know people that work in finance and salaries of 50-80k are far more common, however the working week is often 80 hours

I agree with the above, hes very good at his job, and there must be few people that are able to do things like he can, we need the best, most intelligent, albeit expensive people to get us out of this mess, damn sure i couldnt do it, not for all the money in the world, my take is, hes done what he was employed to do and by the sounds of it not done a bad job at all, so he is entitled to it.

What I find hard to accept is that these companies agree to these amounts of money in the first place.
What makes these people worth that much.
What actually do they do, from what I can see is that they make one or two decisions then sit back and delegate it to someone else.

I know there's probably more to it than that but I wonder just how much more.

Relatively speaking if they're increasing the profits by billions each year then it is a small price to pay. I do agree with you though, the top dogs are paid far too much but it is good to see the likes of Bill gates and Warren Buffet donating their fortune.

thing is when they talk about banks profits ,for banks to profit some poor sod has to lose
likes of us we create something out of nothing
we take stone, clay, or concrete and make a piece of art out of it
bankers just rob people

it doesn't take a lot of intelligence to be able to sack hundreds of staff. It shouldn't of been written into his contract in the first place, therby making him entitled to it. By not giving it, i expect someone else will suffer, like maybe he'll drop his butlers, maids, chaffeurs wages etc: and knock the kids pocket money.

I'm not against this guy getting his bonus per say but it should be on the back of good performance.

From what I can gather he hasn't done his job properly. He was given the remit of increasing lending to small business, something the state owned bank has failed to do.

I do think that a worrying precedent has been set though because all though the guy gave up his bonus voluntarily he was under defacto pressure from the media, government and opposition party to do so. Surely if we want to salavage soemthing from the RBs disaster then we need capable and commmited people at the top. Cant see anybody decent wanting to work there in the future.

Notice that the labour party were shouting the loudest for the guy to give his bonus up. Funny considering that they were in charge in 2008 when Steven Hester was employed to run the bank. Aint politics a shitty world !

I don't think anyone would have any issues with him getting a £5 million bonus or something if it was only after turning the back around and if he failed to do it then no bonus.
