I am seriously thinking of signing on
now that the Govt. is capping benefits at a measly £500 per week take home it seems a no brainer

option A: work your bollocks off 6 days a week,in the freezing cold, wind, rain etc,pay £1.40 a litre for fuel to get there and have to price jobs against half the johnny come lateleys from the EU's newest members.

option B : sit @ home watching telly, drinking skol super ,smoking a bit of dope and knocking out kids every 18 months or so

for both these options you will receive approximately £500 take home,,its not rocket science is it?

we spent £110 billion on welfare last year, when my missus had her business they employed some asylum seekers from mainly African states (legally)
guess where those asylum seekers went on holiday every year?

I appreciate that for various reasons people find themselves in straightened circumstances, I have been there myself years ago (but was given nothing --because i didnt know how to work the system)
but i do feel that if you have got 9 kids ,then it is not your god given right to live in kensington london at £3k per week rent paid for by us
a week in greenock or durham and maybe some folk will decide that maybe it might be an idea to get a job after all (apologies to the above but I have visited both :;): )

rant over

I totally agree that the reforms are long overdue but it worries me that the vulnerarable and most needy could end up worse off than they should be. The cap they're talking about is all inclusive so housing DLA carers benefit etc etc all comes off that total which leaves very little for food and other housing and welfare expenditure. I want to see the likes of who you're talking about Tony given a nudge towards re-engaging with society but we can't just assume everyone is on the take. I hope the councils stop this ridiculous rule that if you have 4 kids you get a 5 bed house. My sister inlaw lives in a lovely street nearby and the house next door was rented to the social for £2700 a month. Renting expensive housing because kids can't share a room is crazy and if they managed the housing stock better and didn't sell them off at stupid knock down prices this wouldn't be happening.
Can't see it from my house

you have paid your dues chris, same as most of us

in enlightened countries I.E. scandinavia when you find yourself out of work you get a very high percentage of your last wage for nearly a year ,this gives you a chance to get back to work without being potless and in debt

I live in luton and for all its good points, its a tip
I would love to live in harpenden or st albans so that miss lout could go to a decent school
but on builder's money I cannot afford to
however there's plenty who have never worked in these towns/cities whos kids get a far better education/health service purely due to them signing in that area
my missus had people with permission to stay from Zimbabwe who were going back on holiday twice a year!!!
and there was me thinking they would be murdered on their return :;):

not a particularly bad day davey, it just got me riled on "london tonight" when they got some posh sounding lady type with 8 kids chattering on about how hard it is being a single mum
well she likes it hard ,obviously

I agree with you on most fronts paul but if a couple on benefits (drug users or not) choose to have a child per calendar month (lets be honest we all know some) why should i pay for this.

I would personally bring in a policy where after 6mths brew you have to join a voluntary work scheme as in 8hrs a day mon - fri assisting others in various forms etc.

now i turn racist according to labour (new or old) but if not born here (Gurkha's excluded) you have to earn the right etc. that means no benefit's.

Cap set too high still.
If you're unemployed for more than 6 months you go to work doing menial shit for the government, same goes for prisoners.
If you're under 25 you don't get a free house from the government just for getting knocked up.
Legalise magic mushrooms, weed and other harmless drugs. Legalise prostitution. Tax them.

Make punching Tony blair in the face the national sport.

Problem solved

Cadd, this aint really that funny. I know a couple who are about to loose their home due to unemployment debts. He is a joiner and she a nurse, she is still working but he is on the brew with no benifits whatsoever. should have given up at 12 and became a junkie.

How are they going to lose their home if she is still working?

we used to get related earnings with the dole at one time. Remember when it was the n. a. b ( nation assistance board ) and was means tested. Thankfully we are more civilised now. I'm with you with not forking out for the illegals, druggies, thieves etc: but what about mr & mrs hard grafters who fell on hard times, surely they are entitled to help? Watching coppers and there are some right scrotes on it.

If you don't fork out for them they just steal your stuff. Got to find the right balance, right now I think we're paying them too much.
