Mezzanine floor - How long a beam?

I am moving into a bigger barn soon as i have outgrown the one i currently rent
The new barn has so much more head room, that i could put in a small mezzanine floor, and i am allowed to do this
however, i really want the floor space to be uninterupted without having a post to support it.
Can i get a wooden beam 7.7m long??? or do i just split it in half and have a post?
The beam would have to be substantial, but not sure how substantial

You may be within the relms of a 7x3 timber with those cross supports?

We put 6.5 metre floor joists in our loft conversion they where 12x4 inches!! :p

I am bolting onto an existing concrete upright, that has two holes in it already, so at least thats done for me!

Try Gluelam for larger spans they can do up to about 13m in various sizes or you could use 2 sections of 3.75m 9x2 bolted to an additional peice it'll be heavy but super strong.

thats cheap, and just what i need. was it wood?
how do i go about sorting what i need?

look on ebay for a channel that length dan
7.7m at a guess you would be looking for 200 by 150mm in steel
glue lams are good but they can be bulky ,I have skipped a few because i couldnt find a market for them

yes it was timber. it is called an I (eye) beam, obviously because it looks like the letter I. i measured the span i needed and asked the travis perkins rep to do some calculations of beam i needed and it took them 48 hrs for delivery.
