And I was thinking my 90mins on the m6 to drive 35 miles was a bad start to the week!

i'm used to it LLL, been doing early runs for years. Took me 4 hours this morning, so be long day today and Thursday going home. Worst one was used to leave 4.30 am and get back 10.00 pm, did that for 9 months and lost 2 1/2 stone in weight, it was mostly 6/7 days a week. I was fooked then.

Fairplay sean, i dont think i could do that tbh, nor would i want to, serious graft and commitment, My dad does 72 hours a week, comes home, eats tea, falls asleep, only day off on sun, sleeps all day :(

Can you not get digs closer to the job?

when you've done it as long as me, you begin to accept train travel etc; as part of your leisure time. Not being a drinker, or mixer it can get lonely in the digs. DN i am close, as regards buses etc but like to unwind with a walk. I get a lift sometimes, usually got the car in the staff car park but not this week. Your auld fella is like me.....old school, fair play to him :;):

I like to work to live, not live to work
seen to many hard grafters do their bollox for 50 years then die 9 months into retirement :(
i do feel with the building game that it slowly wrecks you physically
and when you are wrecked ,you get tossed aside

Very true, my old man was old skool. Got the bad back, swallowed 100 bricks in dust alone, cant hear a thing and now he has retired at 75 is now an old dribble nose, completely ruined. Sad to see the old boy in such a mess because at 70 he could run a wheel barrow all day and i mean running. Would embarass anyone on here.
