How many times do i need to wack the sand down

going to be starting my drive soon and just needed to know how many times do you wack the sand with the compactor .been told you over fill it with sand wack it once then screen the excess off

ok cheers also once ive wacked it down and screened the excess sand off do i lay the blocks about 10mm above the pavement as for wacking the block paving they will eventually level off not sureif thats right
