Hearth & back hearth - Is grano mortar suitable?

Setts and cobbles, tarmac, asphalt, resin systems, concrete whether it's plain, patterned or stencilled, gravels, etc.

I am considering making up a hearth and back hearth of an open fireplace in grano mortar.
Can anybody tell me whether this would be suitable?

I'm not sure, but my guess would be that it's NOT suitable unless a fire/heat proofing additive were used.
