The college i attended told me that to gain the exact amount of material in tonnes I should 'cube x 1.25' to gain an accurate measurement in tonnes. Is this correct and do other people use the same formua????????????

It all depends on what material is used. But if you use the x by 1.25 formula on anything, you will be very short.

Look on the main website for more info

This depends on the material, ie; soil is denser than gravel etc......
soil is about 1.8 tns /m3
gravel is about 1.5tns / m3
