Hi,
Hoping someone can help me out. I had the driveway taken up today and dug up and limestone put down. I just got home and noticed a patch that had a groove and found it odd for a grove to appear so quickly. I went over to the area and noticed it is very soggy and moves as if there is water underneath. The area is about 3 x 2 just wondernig if you have ever seen that before and what you think it might be?
Thanks Terry

like you say there's likely a soft area of wet ground or back fill, that or your mot has become saturated.
you need to remove the stone, and dig down in the soft stuff till you hit good firm ground. then bring the stone up in layers compacting as you go.
also a geotextile would have helped, see the main site's page on geotextiles

my first ever post! Hi.
this kind of thing is common, can sometimes be an indication of a leaking water main in the worst cases, but normally, as already mentioned, can be excavated and made good, its hard to say how deep you'll need to go though, sometimes 6 inches is enough sometimes more.
good luck

I noticed this while they where doing the work so I hope it is not the water main also the water main is about 15ft away and that area is solid.
One thing we did notice about the area that is soggy is that, that area was where the asphalt heaved up the most and the tire grooves went in the most. Its weired its like walking on a air mattress. You are probobly correct there was a lot of cracks right there so there may be a lot of water under there.
Connected to my house I have window well's and a down spout. The ground was always a bit soft around that area there was no pavement there before it was part of the new addition. Yesterday they dug it up and added about 5 or 6" of limestone. Today when I walked over it the soil loosend and went towards the house similar to what mud does when it was wet. Just wondering if this would be something that is normal the day after they did the work and becuase it rained last night.
My neighbor also noticed a crack on the city side of the asphalt after the equipment was there I guess it might have cracked it just wondering is that something they can repair?
Thanks Again
Terry
