how do they shape the fence like that. is it done after the fails are put on then cut , do you drae a curve on. if so how?

with hit and miss fencing like this it is done after the boards have been nailed to the railings. its best done using a plywood template cut to the desired length and curve, use this to mark the boards and cut off with a jigsaw

Copy it from an existing fence, use 'best guess' theory, plot it out in CADD and use that to guide you, or mark it out using classroom geometry.

There's a clever equation that uses chord lengths and radii to determine specific points on the circumference of any true arc, but it's a bit OTT for this sort of job - I could have the template knocked up for you in less time than it would take me to ecxplain how the equation can be applied to just this type of problem (we normally use it for setting out kerb radii when the origin point is obscured).

If you tell me the fence panel length, I can produce a basic template drawing that you can transfer to site.

What width of palings and what spacing are you planning to use? 150mm palings with a 30mm gap works well - it gives you 10 palings per panel, which is handy. :)

i would spend the extra bit and chuck an extra board in there if i was you an inch and a bit gap in hit and miss is over average i would use a 10-15mm gap

I suggested 10 palings as that is what's shown in the photo Hooly posted back at the start of this thread.
