Soakaway.. - ..again.

Foul and surface water, private drains and public sewers, land drains and soakaways, filter drains and any other ways of getting rid of water.

I know this topic has been done to death, however I've got a query re a soakaway built with rubble and capped off etc.

The soakaway is under block paving, so I have no means of accessing it. What stops silt, small stones etc going down the drainage and building up the pipe over time?

It seems to me that this type of soakaway is always going to fill up over time and need clearing out?
Thanks.

To me that isnt a soakaway, its just a hole filled with rubble,

Unless the hole the rubble was placed in was lined with terram or similar then nothing will stop silt etc from building up.

Apologies, I should have been more clear - it was/is lined.
Thanks.

it will still silt up unless there is a back inlet gully where the downpipe connects to the rainwater system
every old pipe bar none that we take out from this type of soakaway is full of silt/roots/mud
