New paving displays being installed

has anyone seen the new Marshall's displays being put into Travis Perkins branches, I saw them a few days ago in a TP near Manchester and was told they are installing them in all the branches

they look absolutely superb, very professional indeed

marshalls have a large (20m by 30 m ) display at gibbs and dandys in luton,which looks fine and there is a stonemarket one at butterfields (stonemarket = marshalls) also very nice

since i bought shares in marshalls the SP has dropped 10 %
its the luton kiss of death when i buy shares in anything :;):

tp wilmslow has them, i go in at least twice a day. always forget something.

nothing to do with my on going charm campaign with the girl behind the desk :p

they did look nice and but was more product boards like 1m x .5 not big ones.

theres a bowland stone near us that has all the full patio layouts screwed to vertical boards,

don't worry we are in for a good summer and Marshall's will sell loads of paving products and the share price will go sky high for you

these must be 2.4m high and either 500mm or 600mm wide in the form of a zig zag, they show about half a metre of each paving product, 3 different products in height on each section and the one I saw must be 8 - 10 sections in length

haha every building that goes in there chats natalie up, i was even asking the yard lads the other day about her haha.

we where talking about moisturiser the other day about my burns etc haha, but my charm isn;t working

my dad went in a ruined my good work lol, i have plenty of irons in the fire

have you noticed the spoon is chained to the machine with like a bike chain haha.

There's been Einitiatives" like this before, and they all fail on exactly the same point: maintenance.

The displays look grand for a few weeks, but then the busy BM yard decides to dump a half-pallet of dry-dash chippings on there because there's nowhere else for them, and once there's a few bags of chippings there, it's not long before a bale of drainage fittings is put there "for a couple of days", and then there's a tarpaulin that blew off the delivery wagon, and then.....

The display doesn't get maintained, the dust and detritus that's inevitable in a busy yard starts to accumulate, and by the time we get to June, any selling potential is effectively lost.

Now, I know that the usual counter-argument to this is that the reps are going to look after displays. Of course they are! We all know how keen those silken-handed reps are to get a brush out of the back of their Beemer and stir up a cloud of dust that will inevitably settle on their freshly-polished shoes.

I'd like to think these displays *would* be properly looked after, and that they would promote more interest in what we have to offer as contractors, but my in-built cynicism tells me that they'll go the same way as all the other such 'initiatives'.

i was being proactive and positive Tony

but I know where your coming from and long term yeah they will start to look shabby, it was just the fact cos they are brand new they look impressive

I try to be positive but life keeps grinding me down.

The only time these displays work is when the site owner has a vested interest in making sure they look tip-top at all times. When you look at the displays in specialist hard-landscaping and paving suppliers yards, like Ruscrete in Southampton, or what was Lunts Heath BS in Widnes, they are incredibly effective *because* they are maintained on a weekly basis, and so they help sell paving, which is what we all want.

not quite the same but believe marshall's have just revamped the displays at their plant in falkirk, strangely enough tobermore opened a place in falkirk last year. ???

I built several displays for Marshalls and Kilsaran over here at a well know BM's various outlets. They looked fantastic once completed even if I do say so myself but a couple of them are in such a state now that I've taken my advertising off them as a result. The money they invested in them was huge so it's crazy to damage them but they have. The one nearest me gets whatever time I can affort because it does get me a lot of work but I do it for free. Marshalls were talking about upgrading their sites after seeing our's and Tobermore's displays I'd like to see their designs probably plagarised it all.

these ones are vertical on like pallet racking as you walk into the building, so be hard to dump stuff on them although they are at the back of the car parking spaces so cars and van parked infront of them but they are just of each product not atuall lay outs etc

I know I've said it before, but it's still true: Tobermore have the best display areas of ANY manufacturer in Britain or Ireland. They are *never* less than spotless.

They spend a lot of money on them, but then they really use them as sales tools and so go to great efforts to ensure they are properly maintained. It helps that they don't have too many to look after, and they are invariably located on sites they own or rent, but even so, they show the rest of the industry how it should be done.

because they are vertical and not on an angle like paving is normally displayed i think the boards will stay cleaner a lot longer

I think they look superb
