Having been to a couple of my industries events theres an obvious decline in exhibitors and punters through the door, setting this thing up may have come a couple of years to late or early for that matter.
I am sure something will eventually happen, no doubt with Tony at the helm.
All the best to the regulars for the new year, and well done all for surviving the last one
Would it be a con? If it is they are very poor conmen, because a good one would keep you on the hook until the big sting. Let's hope it's their first and last. Sorry to hear that Gaffer, if anyone does'nt deserve to be made a fool of , you don't. Your reputation is outstanding. good luck with it. Happy New Year to you your family and all at the brew cabin and your families.
i think that when it was first mooted the industry was bubbling along, and now its come to a juddering halt, paving manafacturers are just trying to keep afloat ,without spending money on events that they can ill afford
i feel a little sorry for WOP the poster as he wasnt a bad scud ,but if you start a business you have to make it viable
all the best

Judging from the personally abusive, playground-standard emails that have come in from WoP Poster and his sidekick since posting that news item, I'm surprised at myself for getting involved with them in the first place!
Sorry to hijack your email facility, just an invitation for you to the new industry event, THE WORLD OF PAVING at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry on the 24th-25th March, 2010. There'll be paving sealers, cleaning equipment, everything to do with paving plus great live demo's and interesting seminars. Entry is free, go to www.worldofpaving.com to pre-register and get a breakfast bacon roll and mug of coffee FREE (09.00 to 10.30 arrival). See you there!
they have a supported by pavingexpert.com badge on that site?
the edible garden show was cancelled last week for similar economic reasons
apparently the organisers wants 15 k for the bar concession which is a lot of drink to sell in 3 days at an allotment show
I dont know what a pitch costs at these shows but i guess it isnt cheap

you still have to justify it mick
would you shell out a grand plus your exes to show off work?
A m8 of mine had a restaurant in clerkenwell central london,he got a great review from time out and for 6 weeks he was so busy he was turning regulars away
then after 6 weeks they had all moved on to somewhere else new and his regulars had gone too
it was a bit of a poison chalice if you get my drift
I imagine you would get endless requests for quotes from one of these shows if you went as an installer,
turning them into jobs might be a bit stickier

would you shell out a grand plus your exes to show off work?
me personally nah not a chance, there are easier ways to generate work than blowing a grand on a stand in a couple of days
I agree with you Luton of course you have to justify the cost, I did the southport flower show 20 years ago and without going into details it was the most expensive 3 days you could ever wish to blow a lot of money, and i mean a lot of money
the guy on the hotdog van next to my plot paid 5k for 3 days, 2 of the days it absolutely hammered it down with rain and was a total washout that year but when you have paid up front there is no turning back especially when you have to sell a lot of hotdogs just to get you 5 grand back
I don't think you would get that many inquiries for domestic paving or building work at the world of paving exhibition anyway, i think its more the manufacturers showing off there products or some company demonstrating the latest time saving gadgets
is anyone still going from the forum to the world of paving exhibition ?

All trade shows are on there a%4e, most of the big noises in any trade suppliers/manufacturers re-sell to old customers, its just as easy and cost affective to present new products and plant via the web and then follow up any interest face to face.
