so its 28 days now
i stand corrected
but 8 of those are bank holidays so that leaves 4 weeks which can be used to effectively give 5 weeks
bottom line for an employer is if a bloke is on 100 quid a day and you have to pay 28 days then thats an extra £2800 you have to find
or 5 weeks minus 1 man
I am not slating holiday entitlements ,but it is something that has to be born in mind when pricing along with NI contributions,CITB levy,public liabity, sick pay, etc etc
so a job that takes a man 4 hours isnt going to be £50 is it

the problem is that loads of the big firms use agency workers and sub contractors to avoid paying all this stuff out
contract can be terminated as and when they feel like it

I was on cis subcontracting and had my cheque bounced once, then laid off. I took him to tribunal with the union backing. I also claimed for holiday pay that the firm did'nt pay. I was awarded my wages, expenses and two years back holiday pay. That was 8 years ago. I think no the self employed are entitled to hol' pay now. Why not, we make the bosses a fortune. ???

i think in the point of law even if you are self employed and work for one firm you are deamed employed you have to work for other firms aswell not to have holls pay and the employer gets zapped for nic i know they had me for lots of money.not for no holls money but for employer nic i had paid the boys cash.for holls so when i had to employ them and pay them they had to give me the money back.tax man had loads i had to stop paying bonus as overheads whent through the roof.now just bring in my boys on the big jobs so everyone happy :p ???

when i first started work there was an archaic bonus system in place it meant that lads would be fighting over a broom as you got better bonus rates for sweeping up than laying 600+ bricks a day.
My old man was the foreman for farrows then and the lads loved him,
he used to bamboozle the QS taking him round measuring walls up twice from different sides etc
i feel that some bonus is worth doing as it gives people that extra zest at work,if you give them a £20 per week pay rise its a round of drinks,but a grand bonus is worth having

Right seem to have stirred something up.
Down here we have toss pot farmers moving plant and muck away on fast track or john deere combinations running on red, so as i run transit tippers and 7.5t tippers on white and non ag use and the lads are paye have to try and earn a living they know the crack but its a job no one wants to work over christmas but if its a choice of a few days or time off unpaid (if they havent saved there holiday) then thats the way the cookie crumbles. Blame it on the corner cutters!

There's a farmer not too far from here who is gradually filling a disused railway cutting with cart-away arisings transported along the public highway in a deathtrap trailer pulled by a tractor running on red, and he's getting away with the in-filling on the grounds that it is 'drainage improvement works'. One lad in the pub told me he's even getting a chuffing grant for 'improving his land'!

Sometimes, it seems farmers are allowed to make money any way they can as long as it doesn't involve raising crops or livestock!

Farmers are a law to themselfs, there will be a grant for this and that,they do as they like on the road, i work for a lot of farmers and they buy material cheaper than i can through Anglia farmers co-op so pricing a job is hardly worth the effort,why can a farmer buy paving cheaper than a paving contractor? i've tried to join Anglia farmers but i got no chance,

farmers can run a tractor and trailer combination upto a gross train weight of 24000kg, they can only be used for the purpose of agriculture and can not be used on the road for hire or reward. if a tractor and trailer in dragging a digger to a field and then used to drain that field its ok, if its taken to a site to perfrom groundworks then it should be run on white diesel and operators licence and waste license.

how ever very hard to proof if you got lots of land and plant can make up and story really and most likey back it up if vosa really pushed the question.

there's a lad near me who deals in plant and herbst agricultural trailers runs two massive deutz fahr tractors doing muck away and groundworks, tractors like £80k each but he runs them on white, has tacho's, and operators license. i've used ours on the road but not every day, unimogs can also be run on red but i guess the agriculture thing still applies to them but who's ever gonna check.

the farmer near us runs a jcb tractor unit and large jd trailer for muck away and top soil sales, this rig can do 35mph as i`ve followed him home before. also has a range rover vogue/porsche and a helicopter. he must love walker homes and their 11million. stripped and sold all the top soil on the site 2days before pen was put to paper. ???
