Crazy paving driveway

Hello

I have decided to lay my own driveway.

The project brief is to have a crazy paved finish with a red brick perimeter. So far I have dug the correct depth and laid and compacted the hard core. Now this is where I am unsure of the correct procedure for the next stage.

1.
Do I lay a wet concrete bed to cover the whole area, let that dry, then lay the brick perimeter on a mortor bed and then lay the slabs in a similar fashion on top of the dry bed?

2.
How would I achieve the 'run-off' from the house to the payment for the rain water?

You can lay the flags and blocks on a mortar bed over a concrete base, if you wish, but I find it's easier to lay the lot onto a 75-100mm bed of moist mix concrete, that is, concrete with just enough added water to bind it together.

As for the falls, well they are formed by calculating the levels that will be required at various points around the pavement to ensure any surface water runs towrsd the requisite drainage points.

Have you read any of the pages on the mian site that deal with Crazy Paving and Setting-out for Drainage?

One last question on this topic!

I am now at the stage of laying the brick perimeter and then the crazy paving, you suggested laying the lot on a moist 75-100mm concrete bed, can you tel me the correct mix for this? I have checked out your site and I am unsure what type of gravel to use, i.e 6, 10 or 20mm for this bedding layer?
Your help much appreciated.

Use a 10mm gravel - 4 parts gravel to 2 parts grit sand to 1 part cement should be more than adequate.
