Perhaps all he wanted was a cheap black-it-over job? Well that's what he's got, for sure!
All compacted with a plate, too! :0

personally think you should leave this here, people should/need be warned about fools like this. college got conned like this before, new tarmac drive, they laid it on top of the weeds and broken tarmac from the original drive. it only lasted 2 weeks before it looked like his original drive, only darker and above his dpm.
God loves a tryer

they could go on the X factor as " the black and white tarmac crew" chances are there is 1 guy running the show,he would be the one in a hi-vis that sits in a shiny van shouting at the others. I know a couple of lads that work for the pikeys and they have to graft really hard for very little money, difficult for them to jack in as they are put up "free of charge" in a caravan

Spoke to the chap and his wife this afternoon. Seems they new it was a cheap price, and the quality would be sub perfect, but more to the point the gypos hadn't even been given signed permission to start the work before they turned up with a digger and ripped up the old drive and garden. :O
Tarmac is supposedly permeable, and that is the hope they are clinging to for when the council come to inspect it.
Moral of the story: say no politely but firmly to anybody who turns up with a pushy attitude and a pikey accent. Cos once they've got a toe in the door, by poor workmanship or the threat of violence/vandalism, you're screwed.

But i also think that the client that spends a few grand on a new driveway and allows work like this to progress to completion is also part of the problem. There has been enough tv shows, warnings in local paper and plenty of internet sites like the cabin giving time, money and a lot of effort to help advise and inform people about he do's and dont's... Yet to this day these dodgy trades still make a lot of dough
I take offence to the statement that anyone with a pikey accent should be avoided. Most people think that an irish accent is a pikey. This is why i struggle at times with winning work because this stereo type is the first thing to pop into peoples heads.

Ah cmon now!
The Pikeys and the Irish are nothing alike.
One's cash flow is almost entirely based on selling over priced merchandise to foreigners that they don't really need... and the others are pikeys :p
But in all seriousness, Pikeys sound nothing like the average Irishman, and only a small section of people would actually associate those anti-social cretins with the famously good humoured and friendly Irish.
Possibly because most Irish firms aren't over here cold calling homeowners, and if they are and they loose out to a more local company then so be it.
