not 100% sure about this, but i think there is a tacho exemption for trailers if you venture no further than about 50 miles from base, and are carrying "tools and materials in connection with your trade".
overloading is a different matter - vosa now have cameras with sensors that weigh you as you drive over them (gross weight and axle weights!), and the 1st you know about it is when the ticket comes through the post. nice...........

close. 50km (why km when everything else is miles!"), and any further you have to keep a record of start and stop times, distance etc.
madness.

The driving hours rules are 4hr drive then a 45 min break then another 4 hours you have to have 11 hours rest per night as per HGV rules,
this makes it a pain for me as if i get out off lorry and into disco with mini digger on i have 2 tachos to be correct with MSH

hello all not posted beforebut have been an avid follower for a couple of years, sorry to pull you up msh but you can do 4.5 hrs driving with a 45min break then another 4.5hrs driving BUT if you are then on a mini digger your tacho should be set to other work and you cannot exceed a 12hr duty time shift eg
drive to site 2 hrs work on site 8 hrs drive home 2 hrs this is legal as you have not driven for more than 4.5 hrs no break req
drive to site 2 hrs work on site 8 hrs drive home 3.5 as some arse has stuffed his car into the barriers whilst texting illegal as you have exceded your duty time by 1.5 hrs. there are complcated exceptions to this re rest and borrowing time from the following week.:p

Vosa and traffic seem to know our motors. One driver has been done 3 times over 15 years for overloading, and been pulled a few times for spot checks. Bosses son got pulled for having blue sidelights on the van. Silly twat.rab1 wrote:one of our men were stopped and weighed recently, transit service van. national company, police said to the driver that they knew it was all legal before they stopped him, van/document wise. 12kg under weight, police up here seem to be looking for vans now. easy target? ???

Thank Christ I live in N/Ireland Tacho's for over 7.5ton only. The only time you get stopped is to check if you're running red diesel and no one gives a damn if you tyres are crap and you're overloaded. The HGV's get it tight but everyone else is left alone the way it should be. We also have no legislation for permeable paving etc and you know what everything just ticks along nicely. Probably some penpusher trying to change all that though.
Can't see it from my house

our local quarry has shut down for the time being not enough business, moved all the crushers and heavy plant out (80 ton cat being moved was impressive) and to their north manchester quarry. let the 6 short time drivers go (the young lads) and moved the 2 old boys 44 years + up to the manchester site. we've had wagons in all week stock pilling 20mm-dust and 40mm single size, got about 100 tons in the yard now. real pain though was handy having a quarry within a 10 minutes journey.
job needs to pick up and pick up fast, i haven't had any enquires for ages now just ticking over working for my dads company but its hard times.

Yeah, sadly I can see quarries round our area going the same way too.
Once you get used to a particular quarry product and it's performance etc, it is very hard to change sometimes.

Well, unemployment update number 2.
Looks like most of the big builders are now breaking new ground. Persimmon are diging alot of footings over the last month. Im on a Miller site and they've just released another 10 plots. The plaster board guy came today and said their branch in Brum is overflowing with boards ready to go out.
Looking a little rosier
