Anybody phoned the Inland revenue's business support line? I did a few days ago and got the most arrogant sod ever.

Not had the privilege of that experience, but I dropped a report off at the offices of one of the nation's biggest consulting engineers on Thursday and the receptionist was, by quite some way, the rudest, most dismissive, unhelpful upgrade-from-a-call-centre clowns I've ever encountered.

And all because I had the temerity to interrupt her discussion with the boyfriend. Silly me: I foolishly assumed she was employed to help people find the right offices when she's actually there to apply lip gloss and and make arrangements for her social life.

Don't get me started on the taxman, having had three yes THREE tax investigations that lasted 4.5 years all together and wanting £65k of me the first time.

mind you, I had to phone the taxman about 2 month ago, and I cracked up when the tax lady give me their new phone number, the last three numbers were 666.
I had to say sorry to her because I was laughing that much, and in the end even she seen the funny side of it.

Three investigations, do they need a reason to investigate or are people just picked at random?

building industry is red hot for tax investigation,i just let my accountant do all the paperwork, then pay them what they ask for
i cant understand layman trying to do their own accounts,it would be like asking your accountant to lay his own patio

our old rugby coach was a senior inland revenue tax inspector, he'd always make a point of giving his card to the ref before a game haha

I Don't want to scare you but BOO!!!

No kid, I had a fantastic accountant who I was paying about £1500 per year and they had a really good name, but I still got the tax things, after the first one I got insurance and then I found out the insurance tax company had dropped me right in it, and never got back to the taxman which made him angry and he turned the same colour as my money.
IRPC was what they were called, don't use them, they crap, and I could swing for a certain man who works there.

its just sensible in the building game, my old man had a VAT inspection and they picked up a hoover he had bought 3 years before and had delivered to his home address, even though it was used for work.
society has gotten more cash free in the last 10 years, and so the many fiddles of days gone by are harder for crooks to hide

not worth the sleepless nights IMHO
